Statement: Hurricane Katrina Leaves Path
of Destruction
Dear Friend,
Thank you for your enduring interest in The Good News magazine.
In a world overflowing with enormous religious misunderstanding
and moral poverty, we certainly hope the magazine and our
other literature and Web sites are giving you significant
insight, comprehension and enlightenment.
Please
allow me to give you an update on two important developments.
We just celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Good
News Radio program.
Last month Gary Petty,
Good
News Radio host and pastor of the Austin,
San Antonio and Waco, Texas, congregations, recorded 12
new radio programs at our home office near Cincinnati,
Ohio. Over the last five years he has prepared, edited
and hosted 120 programs. Since the program first aired
in August 2000, it has been broadcast from 46 cities, resulting
in 12,336 responses.
Good
News Radio is also now airing on
XM Satellite Radio, available throughout the United States
and parts of Canada and Mexico. In addition, the program
is on the Internet at www.live365.com,
as well as the www.gnmagazine.org/radio Web
site.
"Because of the radio program I've had some interesting
experiences," Mr. Petty said recently. "I've received
a number of e-mails from people, some saying that the program
has helped them have a better understanding of the Bible.
We've actually produced a couple of programs based on e-mails.
Recently we recorded a program on Mardi Gras as a result
of an e-mail question."
We believe the real future of audio productions like Good
News Radio is
on the Internet, where people can listen online at any time
that's convenient for them.
Also, construction on our new video/TV media center is moving
along swiftly. As we mentioned in an earlier update, our
goal of using the powerful converging technologies of television
and the Internet to reach people with God's message of hope
is edging closer to reality. In early August we had two profitable
days of meetings cementing plans for media production once the media center
is completed. Nine people—who will be involved in such functions as
program presenters, editors, technical staff, Internet development, advertising
and marketing—participated in mapping our direction for producing television
and Web-based programs. We covered a myriad of topics including a proposed
name for the program, the presenters and guests, program format and over
30 program topics, production schedules and strategies for program placement
on cable-access stations.
It won't be long before the set, lighting, sound,
video and editing equipment will be installed. November is
our target month to start recording TV programs, with the
first one going on cable-access stations at the end of December.
The new media center will help us capitalize on the increasing
capabilities of the cost-effective medium of the Internet.
Having a video-recording environment will enable us to provide
content for a 24/7/365 video/TV Web site with commentaries
and programs on many subjects relating to the good news of
the Kingdom of God. Video production for the World Wide Web
is another vital means to accomplish this responsibility,
adding to the important and helpful content we already provide
on our Web sites.
We'll keep you updated as additional developments occur
in the near future. We never take your support for granted.
Simply put, but deeply felt—thank you!
Sincerely,

Clyde
