Dear Friend,
Thank you for your enduring interest in The Good News magazine.
Our editors strive to pack each issue with articles about
world trends and events, family and social issues and prophecy
in the news—all from the perspective of God's
Word, the Bible. We also appreciate that you have signed
up for this monthly electronic newsletter! In it we strive
to provide updates on the work of the United Church of God
and its various projects around the globe, plus any breaking
news or important announcements.
This month I'd like to inform you of two important
developments. The first is about our monthly publication, World
News and Prophecy, which provides in-depth commentary
and analysis of world news in the light of Bible prophecy.
Recently World News and Prophecy went online! Our
managing editor, Darris McNeely, welcomes you to visit the
new Web site at www.WNPonline.org.
Here you can sign up for your own free subscription to World
News and Prophecy and be invited to participate in Longitude—a
daily online weblog. A weblog or "blog" is a
Web page that displays, in chronological order, the postings
by one or more individuals. News items can be referenced
with related hyperlinks, personalized with related commentary,
then posted to the blog.
The Longitude blog also employs the technology
of "podcasting." A podcast is simply a short
audio program, 5- to 15-minutes long. Our podcast covers
world events as they happen. You are invited to "subscribe" to
both the blog and podcasts and in doing so your computer
will receive regular notification of new postings.
Also, on May 12, 2005, the 12-man Council of Elders of the
United Church of God selected Clyde Kilough as the next president
of the Church. The selection of Mr. Kilough concluded a process
that lasted nearly 60 days following formal input solicited
from Church elders and Council members.
A longtime pastor, Mr. Kilough was elected to the Council
in 2001 by the General Conference of Elders. He also previously
served as the Council's official reporter from 1997 to 1999.
Mr. Kilough will begin his three-year term as president on
July 1, 2005. At that time I will again return to my love
of pastoring a local congregation for the United Church of
God. I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to have served
you during my tenure as president. I am fully confident Mr.
Kilough will do an exemplary job of leading the United Church
of God. Certainly, our diligent prayers and vigorous support
are fully behind him.
Finally, as you know, we are committed to proclaiming and
teaching godly solutions to the difficulties and challenges
people encounter in today's world. We trust that what
you read in The Good News, World News and Prophecy and
our other literature provides you with valuable understanding
and encouragement. Please don't hesitate to let us
know if we can be of additional help.
Sincerely,
Roy Holladay
