The Good News magazine -- A Magazine of Understanding
The Good News reader update August 1, 2003 - Letter from the President of the United Church of God.

Dear Good News Reader,

Have you had the opportunity to listen to the Good News radio program? “The important news behind the headlines” is the vital theme of this weekly, educational and engaging facet of the work of the United Church of God, an International Association.

Having first debuted on August 12, 2000, more than 50 programs have since been recorded at the Church’s home office radio studio in Cincinnati. The broadcasts, which cover an extensive array of biblical, current-event and prophetic topics, are expressly designed to convey the sparkling truth of God’s Word to listeners across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Gary Petty, a former professional television and radio broadcaster who now pastors the San Antonio, Texas, congregation of the United Church of God, prepares and hosts each 27-minute program. The programs, which often include one or two guests, cover informative and enlightening topics in a vigorous, thought-provoking and challenging style. Many guests are longtime ministers who have authored booklets or articles in The Good News or in World News and Prophecy, or who have specialized biblical or secular knowledge on significant contemporary issues and problems.

We recently added one new station to our radio log. Beginning July 20, our program began airing on 20,000-watt, news/talk WOOD 1300 AM in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our show, which airs every Sunday at 7 a.m., immediately follows the popular Focus on the Family program by Dr. James Dobson.

Our complete radio log is available on our Web site at www.ucg.org. If you don’t live in an area where our broadcast is heard, you can still listen to the programs online. We hope you take the time to do so.

Also, we recently offered our latest booklet, The Middle East in Bible Prophecy, to Good News readers. Through the end of July, 26,637 subscribers have responded to the offer, nearly exhausting the initial printing.

“This is the first time we’ve had to order a booklet reprint in the same month in which it was first printed, but that’s a nice problem to have!” Scott Ashley, Good News and booklet managing editor reported.

“This is an important booklet that covers a lot of biblical ground, and will really help people understand what’s happening in the Middle East and where it’s leading,” said Mr. Ashley. “Because the Middle East so constantly grabs the headlines, I don’t doubt that this will be one of our most popular booklets ever.”

If you haven’t had a chance to request this new booklet yet, you can do so at www.ucg.org.

Sincerely,

Roy Holladay signature
